Eight O'Clock Walk
10,99 € *
zzgl. 1,49 € Versand

Richard Attenborough portrays an innocent man on trial for his life in this compelling, sympathetic courtroom drama based on a true case. Directed by Lance Comfort - an under-appreciated British talent whose prolific career encompassed wartime biopic Penn of Pennsylvania and accomplished melodrama Hatter's Castle - Eight O'Clock Walk also features strong support from film noir heroine Cathy O'Donnell and character actor Maurice Denham. The film is presented here in a brand-new transfer from original film elements in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio. Taxi driver Tom Manning is wrongly accused of the murder of an eight-year-old girl on a London bombsite. Jill, his fiercely loyal young wife, wins the active sympathy of Peter Tanner, Junior Counsel for the Defence. Against heavy odds, Peter proves a barrister of great ability and resource... but can he save Tom from the gallows? New York, 1955, Private Detective Harry Angel has a new case on his hands. Washed up crooner Johnny Favorite has gone missing. Anybody that might be holding clues is being killed. Informants and witnesses are being murdered one by one. The bodies are piling up, time is running out and Harry Angel is being kept awake at night by strange satanic visions. From the mean streets of New York to the backwoods of New Orleans, Harry suddenly finds himself being dragged into a world of sex, murder, voodoo and death. This is no ordinary case, and Harry is no ordinary detective. Directed by Alan Parker (Midnight Express, Mississippi Burning) and starring Mickey Rourke (Sin City, The Wrestler), Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Heat), Lisa Bonet (High Fidelity) and Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Angel Heart is a deeply disturbing film with an incredibly unsettling atmosphere. A prime example of late eighties neo-noir, it successfully manages to blend elements of detective fiction with dark horror. Before Damien Hirst: There Was Salvador Dali: S...

When I visited the huge Damien Hirst exhibition staged by the Gagosian Gallery in New York in 1996, one of the most striking pieces was a large glass tank full of live fish. Dumped among the fish were an obstetrical couch, in a rather decayed condition, and various obstetrical implements. For some time after I had seen the show, this image tugged at my mind. It reminded me of something - but of what? Finally, memory dragged up the reference I needed: Hirst's piece was a direct descendant of Salvador Dali's installation, "Rainy Taxi", shown at the International Surrealist Exhibition in Paris in 1938."Rainy Taxi" was a broken down old car, in which Dali placed two mannequins. One was the driver, who had the head of a fish. In the back seat there was a blonde woman in an evening dress, seated among lettuces and endives, under a pipe system that supplied a constant fine spray of water. Thriving among the vegetables were two hundred live snails. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Jack Wynters. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/105188/bk_acx0_105188_sample.mp3. The Game (Limited Edition)

Made in between Seven and Fight Club, David Fincher’s edge-of-your-seat thriller The Game remains arguably his most underappreciated film, bolstered by an exceptional star performance by Michael Douglas. Despite his large mansion and intimidating bank balance, multimillionaire Nicholas Van Orton is haunted by the childhood memory of his father’s suicide. On the day he reaches the same age his father was when he died, Nicholas receives an unconventional birthday present from his estranged brother Conrad (Sean Penn): an invitation to play a mysterious “game”, the aim and rules of which are kept secret. As the game unfolds, Nicholas suddenly finds himself in a fight for his life, assisted by the enigmatic Christine (Deborah Kara Unger, Crash) but unsure of where to turn and who to trust. Presented in a director-approved remaster available for the first time in the UK, the twisty mysteries of Fincher’s pulse-pounding paranoiac puzzle are explored in an exciting array of new and archive bonus features.
